Course: Side Dish, Snack

Method

  1. Guava Jam
A delicious homemade guava jam with a tropical hint of granadilla. Perfect on warm toast, scones, fresh bread or croissants.
    Makes: About 2–3 medium jars
    🛒 Ingredients
    – 500 g ripe guavas
    – 400 g white sugar
    – ½–1 can (about 60 g) granadilla pulp, or fresh granadilla pulp
    – ½ cup (125 ml) water
    – 30 ml (2 tbsp) fresh lemon juice
    – Pinch of salt
    – 1 tsp BlixSam Granadilla Flavouring (optional, for extra fruit flavour)
    👨‍🍳 Method
    1. Prepare the guavas
Wash the guavas, trim the ends and cut into small pieces or quarters. Peel if preferred.
    2. Soften the fruit
Place the guavas, water and lemon juice into a saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 15–20 minutes until the fruit is soft.
    3. Add the sugar
Stir in the sugar and a pinch of salt. Mix until the sugar has completely dissolved.
    4. Cook the jam
Bring to a gentle boil and cook for 20–30 minutes, stirring regularly, until the jam thickens and reaches setting point. Stir in the granadilla pulp during the last 2–3 minutes of cooking.
    5. Finish
If using, stir in the BlixSam Granadilla Flavouring and cook for another minute.
    6. Bottle
Pour the hot jam into sterilised jars, seal immediately and allow to cool completely before storing.
    💡 BlixSam Tip
For a smoother jam, press the softened guavas through a sieve before adding the sugar. Adding the granadilla pulp at the end keeps its fresh, vibrant flavour.
