Old School Homemade Ginger Beer (2 L)
Made BlixSam Style with BlixSam Products A traditional homemade ginger beer with a warming ginger kick, refreshing citrus notes and a light natural fizz. Perfect for hot summer days or a classic South African braai.🛒 Ingredients (Makes 2 Litres)
- 150 g fresh ginger, peeled and grated
- 1½ cups brown sugar
- 2 tsp BlixSam Arm Maat Spice
- 1 tsp BlixSam Steakhouse Spice (a small pinch for warmth)
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp orange juice
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- 2 litres cold water
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
👨🍳 Method
- In a large bowl, combine the grated ginger, brown sugar, BlixSam Arm Maat Spice, BlixSam Steakhouse Spice, lemon juice, orange juice and vanilla essence.
- Add 1 cup of the cold water and stir until the sugar has dissolved.
- Pour the mixture into a clean 2-litre plastic bottle using a funnel.
- Top up with the remaining cold water, leaving about 5 cm of space at the top.
- Sprinkle the yeast into the bottle. Do not stir.
- Screw the lid on tightly and leave at room temperature for 24–48 hours to ferment.
- Once fizzy, strain the ginger beer through a fine sieve into a clean bottle.
- Refrigerate until well chilled before serving.
